Nothing is more artistically satisfying to me than painting from nature.  From the mountains to the ocean, the colors, textures, and geometry offer me endless inspiration. My work can best be described as loose realism. I aspire to create paintings that are direct and expressive. I am first attracted to a scene by either a strong geometry or contrast. It is not my intention to record a photo-realistic image, but to squeeze out onto the canvas a distillation of time, place, movement, and emotion.   — Steven A. Simpson
